Toughest of the tough for outdoor work. If you don't need
that much protection, you don't want these pants, but for
rough outdoor conditions these are the best. Two full layers
of 12.5 oz Oil Finish Tin Cloth from the waist to below the
knee. Double sewn construction throughout, bar tacking
at all stress points. Two front slash pockets, back pockets
with flaps. Riveted suspender buttons, button fly, takes
belts up to 1 1/2" Durable and water repellent. These come

Now it is offered in an insulated version to protect not only
against sun and wind but cold, inclement weather too. Earflaps
pull down to protect against winter's chill. Leather hatband, cotton

Fabric
Note * Why "Tin" Cloth? It's called "Tin" because that's how
tough it is, but this fabric is actually 100% cotton. This is
the most durable fabric Filson makes. It's a densely woven, 2 ply
cotton that is HEAVY-- 12.5 or 11 oz, depending on the finish.
And speaking of finishes, that's what really makes the
difference. The heavier, heartier oil-finished fabric is
completely soaked in a paraffin-based wax, creating highly water and
wind repellent, breathable garments. This finish is very stiff
at first, but will soften. It is not machine washable.
Just wipe or brush clean. Garments will gain character with
use. The Dry Finish Tin Cloth starts with the same cloth,
but is pre-shrunk before being treated with a durable, water
repellent and stain resistant finish. Dry Finished Tin Cloth
is slightly lighter weight, has excellent breathability, is much
softer than the Oil Finish Cloth, and is machine washable. The
water repellency will diminish with reaped washings, so it can be
reproofed with water repellent finish. Although
dangerous tests are not recommended and Filson makes no claims or
guarantees to this kind of toughness, it is not unusual to hear a
customer say that their Tin Cloth clothing saved their life.
